Join Us and Explore what it Means to Be Sustainable

Sustainability SummitEco-Cycle, in partnership with Amadeus Consulting and the St. Julien Hotel & Spa, is hosting a Sustainability Summit, a half-day event on what it means to be sustainable. The event focuses onCommunity and how re-investing in ours, achieves economic, environmental and social benefits. Attendees will receive information that is relevant to both the business and residential sector demystifying sustainability. Typically, an event of this nature would cost anywhere from $75-$150 per person. THIS IS A FREE EVENT on Friday, November 18th from 1 pm – 5 pm with an extended St. Julien Happy Hour following from 5 - 7 pm.

Some of our participating companies include Amgen, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Whole Foods, the Boulder Outlook Hotel, the Center for Resource Conservation, and Boulder Community Hospital to name a few. This event is sponsored by the City of Boulder Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD).

This session focuses on how a company can go from full trash service to diverting 80% of their discards from the landfill. You don’t have to be totally eco-savvy or dive in head first with focusing on solar panels or windmills to make a positive impact on the environment -- and while great, not all companies have the ability to implement this big of an initiative. Jay helps companies take out some of the guesswork in starting up a sustainability program within the business practice and discusses the process of making implementation simple.

How can technology be used for the greater good of sustainability? John will show many examples of great technological advances being used for sustainable practices. It is a common misconception that one person can’t make a difference by themselves. John shows how some technologies remove the barriers so everyone’s efforts will positively impact the environment.

Leigh will present ‘what’s real and what’s not’ when it comes to legitimacy in the recycling sector with specificity around what has now been termed, ‘greenwashing’. That which discredits what is truly E-stewardship versus making a buck in the Zero-Waste industry. Greenwashing tactics will be reviewed from a sales and services, advertising and products perspective. Leigh will present a means of not getting suckered and how to limit frustration when it comes to this kind of false advertising and keepin’ it real!

“Worm Warriors” - Dan Matsch-Eco-Cycle

With worms being our symbol for healthy humans and a healthy earth, Dan will begin with the basics and provide an overview on why organics should not be landfilled. From there, we’ll get information on the benefits of recycling organics and end with an education around how easy it is to compost whether it is individual participation or from an office/business/company perspective. As advocates, let’s go to battle for worms!

Panel Discussion “Devastation to Divinity.”
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Each participating member will discuss their role and their company role in moving toward a sustainable Eco-System. -Each speaker will have 5-7 minutes to state how they took the mystery out of being sustainable. Additionally, their company’s effort, and their personal role in taking measures toward sustainability in a Zero-Waste driven city and county wide initiative, additionally, any effort taken makes a difference. It’s not about all or nothing.
